Take Our Daughter's to Work Day

Each year SAWLF welcomes high school students and corporate partners for Take Our Daughter's to Work Day.

Our program, in partnership with South Asian Youth Action (SAYA!), offers teen girls the opportunity to meet and shadow South Asian women professionals in positions of leadership, responsibility and authority. The collaboration offers SAWLF members the chance to share their experience and directly impact young women at a critical stage of their personal development. Student participants are between 14 to 19 years of age and represent New York City high schools in Queens and Brooklyn.

Our April 2010 program paired 45 South Asian high school students, with SAWLF members in diverse fields such as technology production, social justice, museum and cultural programming, finance, marketing, medicine, and publishing. Participating SAWLF members represent organizations such as JPMorgan Private Bank, Harper Collins, Asia Society, I Have A Dream Foundation, MTV, InfoSys, Colgate as well as Dr. Juhi Chawla, a psychiatrist in private practice. American Eagle contributed gift bags for all of our student participants.

The collaboration between SAWLF and SAYA! is designed to spark the highest aspirations of immigrant teen girls by creating access to women professionals in a diverse roles and organizations.
