Mukta Farooq

Senior Technical Staff Member, IBM

Mukta holds a senior technical position in the Semiconductor Research & Development Center at IBM Microelectronics in East Fishkill. Mukta has a strong track record in spear heading cross-functional and cross-divisional groups, to successfully develop, qualify and deliver critical technologies at IBM. She is currently the 3D Development -Chief Technologist at IBM East Fishkill. Mukta is a leader in inventing and patenting. She is an IBM Master Inventor, so nominated because of her long term contributions to IBM Intellectual Property, and for her leading role in mentoring others in the art of inventing. Mukta is also Chairof the IBM East Fishkill Master Inventor Program, and is charged with identifying future Master Inventors, and promotingtheir role in the IBM technical community. She also chairs the Invention Development Team which is responsible for evaluating new inventions, supporting Intellectual Property Law, and helping inventors in the patent process. Mukta has been an active contributor to innovation and thought leadership, and holds over 50 issued patents. She has received several high value patent awards. She has also authored 15 external publications., and received a Best Paper award in 2006.In 2008, Mukta was awarded the Women of Color Technology All-Star award in recognition of her sustained contributions to technology.Mukta strongly believes in the power of mentoring, and has been an active mentor in various programs over many years: Destiny Camp & MentorPlacePrograms for middle school girls, MentorNet-an e-mentoring program for college-going women in engineering & the sciences, and one on one mentoring for women technologists in the workplace, both within IBM, and outside. Mukta is married to Shaji Farooq and they have two children –a daughter in college, and a son in high school. Mukta’sidea of a great time is whenever the four of them can be together, be it in some exotic locale or just at home.
